here is my situation, what can be done???

I started teaching in Jiangsu provence on feb 2010.  The school issued me a work visa that is valid until January.
I signed the schools contract stating that will will work until then.
On August 20th, I quit working for the school.
I will fly home to the United States on Setp 11th.
I am not working anymore here in China, just visiting friends and traveling around the Guilin area until I leave.
I didnt think that quitting with the school would mess with my visa.  But now the school is telling me that they need to cancel my work visa.
Can they do this?
I am trying to get them to delay canceling my visa until I leave but Im not sure if they will.
Is there a way to quickly change my work visa to a tourist one?  and if so is there a way to do it here in Southern China?
Thanks!

Hey there - just responded to your other post as below:

As long as you don't hand over your passport you should be fine. They can still go down to the PSB and try to cancel it without your passport but its a complicated process that is a big hassle for them and unless there's some real bad blood between you, I doubt they'll bother - especially seeing as you're flying out 10 days later. I believe also that even if your visa is canceled, the PSB still give you a 10 day grace period /tourist visa to get your stuff together and leave the country.

If you do decide to stick around for longer its probably a good idea to get yourself switched onto a tourist visa. You can check with any visa agency to find about how to do this.
