I am an Australian female who will visit Shanghai from 12-19 August.  I would like to meet some other English-speaking 'foreigners' who are living or visiting Shanghai.  I would love to hear about their experiences esp. as I am considering locating there.

I haven't discovered how to contact forum members via website  - can someone please advise me ?   I welcome anyone to contact me (and if you do, love you to tell me how you managed it).

HOpe to hear from y'all soon

Hi Bekstar,

It's quite easy to meet people from around the world in Shanghai--the expat population is quite large, and English is more or less the lingua franca. Depending on your tastes, there's a little bit of nearly everything going on in Shanghai.

I suggest checking out one of several sites focusing on Shanghai's expat community events and then checking out a few things--concerts, art openings, game nights, sports events and so on.

Just come with an open mind, be ready to meet and talk to people, and have fun.

Here are the best sites for events in Shanghai:

smartshanghai.com
cityweekend.cn
shanghaiist.com
shanghaiexpat.com

Hello Bekstar,

I want to start where Westy stopped, as a matter of fact, Shanghai people (citizens) welcome foreigners, and they're so friendly as i may say because to my own side they treated me very well like their own brother, and they've not think my color is different.

I've been to another cities but i've not found a place like Shanghai, So feel free to check out those websites for more, but you can take it easy in order to run into bad people, as you know that everybody cannot be so good. I got so much experience here, but i take it as an experience, and you must agree with me that traveling is a part of education and from education we learn, then from learning we got more experiences...

Let me know when you arrive in Shanghai, i can help you if you need, also i can tell you my story, my life in Shanghai, or China in general...

Cheers!
