An additional announcement was also made, stating Starwood's intention to bring the W boutique hotel chain to China, with plans to open W Guangzhou in the near future.

what is this? some advertisement for Starwood Hotels? I don't understand the one-sided-ness of this post, but I will agree that Starwood's got some really great hotels and deals.
I stayed at the Sanya Sheraton Resort a couple years ago and loved it. Right in Yalong Bay, this place was really amazing: clean, comfortable, convenient, cozy. I went back to Sanya this year and stayed the Hilton which was nowhere near as good. I'm gonna go back to Sanya again this year for Chinese New Year and I'll definitely stay at the Sheraton this time.
As for the Westin Bund: the lobby and brunch are amazing. The rooms have very strange layout. Good thing they almost always have better prices than most other hotels of its ilk.

Is there a St. Regis in China? I love staying there in the States, but didn't know they have one in China.
Also, ditto the Sheraton Sanya. It's easily the nicest resort in Yalong. I've also stayed at the Kempinski which is nice, but too close to the air traffic; there's always planes flying overhead which gets really annoying, really fast.

Richy,
Check out http://www.chinatravel.net/china-hotels/the-st--regis-beijing/introduction-5710.html ; St. Regis Beijing for your liking.
After you stay there let me know how it is. I usually stay at the Winterless because I get a sweet deal but their service has gone way down that I'd like to stay somewhere a little more upscale next time I head to Beijing.

It may not be a Starwood Brand, but Peninsula is finally opening it's Shanghai location. It's outrageously expensive for sure, but that's part of the luxury I guess.
Anyway, I stayed at the Peninsula in Honk Kong once, and, although I was broke afterward, I've never had a hotel experience that ever compared, well, maybe Mandarin Oriental.

it seems like Accor's also getting in on the Chinese expansion. According to this article on ChinaMediaBlog (http://www.chinamediablog.com/2009/11/02/novotel-touches-down-in-taipei/) Accor is pushing their efforts in Taiwan at the moment and then going to continue to build more hotels on the mainland. I guess it's pretty safe to say that all major hotel chains are going to build and build and build in China, but has anyone ever see a Holiday Inn here?
