If you are a fan of Salvador Dali's sculptures, head down to the Shanghai Art Museum before August 14th, 2009. With 350 pieces of his work on display, you won't be disappointed.
Well, actually, if you're looking to see some of his most iconic paintings you might be a little disappointed. The paintings, sketches and watercolors--while there are lots of them--are not that impressive, in my lowly opinion.
However, the examples of his sculptures on display are fabulous. At any rate, I recommend you check it out. Smart Shanghai's The Persistence of Dali gives a pretty good overview of the exhibition and City Weekend's interview with Guillaume Arnoud is also very informative.
I'm not going to go into detail, but I did take some photos of my favorite bits (yes, my bad, I love his sculptures and furniture). You're not allowed to take photos, but everyone was taking them sneakily... and my point of sharing them is to give you a taste of what to expect so that you go check it out yourself. Be inspired...

The place where you get your photo taken....
Getting intimate with the famous, heavily waxed mustache...
Drippy clocks...
Elephants with very long legs....
Golden naked lady coming out of a grand piano that is wearing high heels...
Eve being a complete teasy tart. Adam trying to make up his mind: to make her happy or to make God happy...
Decisions...decisions...
The empty face of temptation...
Ah, such luscious lips you have: The Mae West Lips Sofa...
Ever the crazy-looking artist: Kinda love his leapard-print shirt though.
Actually, here he kinda looks just adorable...someone who would probably be really interesting to talk to... or just watch.
The man has style...the mustache looks sophisticated here, not as wild as normal...or at least he isn't doing the crazy eyes thingy...
Ah, back to the crazy eyes...this is quite the outfit!!
Dali was always interested in exploring religious and mythological symbolism, often combining the two. Here the massive thumb is representative of God.
Stored baggage??
Bronze angel with block head...
Drippy clocks...
More drippy clocks...
Yup, lots of drippy clock imagery...we like them though...
Miniature sculptures....
I apologize for the above irreverant comments--no need for angry art historians to track me down and beat me with sticks. Dali's brilliance is self-evident so I'm not going to bother providing relevant, intelligent or legitimate commentary. Do your own homework...
