Better City, Better Drive? Photo from General Motors

With the world's population moving increasingly to large urban centers (60% of global population by 2030) questions about how to manage traffic and transportation infrastructure are manifold. How do we decrease pollution? How do we improve traffic? Where does everyone park? How do decrease the number of accidents? Well it seems that GM/SAIC have come up with answers to all those questions, and will be unveiling them at Shanghai Expo 2010.

GM's three Segway-like bubblemobiles are named Jiao (Pride), Miao (Magic) and Xiao (Laugh) and powered by lithium-ion batteries giving the vehicles ranges of about 40 km per charge. With their diminutive figures, a traditional parking space accommodates about five. But compact as they are, these spunky little cars still seats two and even have room for cargo. Not only that, vehicle-to-vehicle communication systems and distance-sensing technologies will reduce accidents and facilitate "autonomous operation." Finally! We'll be able to talk on our cell phones while driving again!

We're not sure if you'll be able to drive one at Expo but if you’re interested in seeing the EN-V up close, stop by the SAIC-GM Pavilion at the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai between May 1 and Oct. 31, 2010.
