After a failed attempt to establish a foothold on Chinese soil back in 2004, it seems the Playboy Bunnies have finally found their niche and will be fluttering their ears and bobbing their tails in Macau by the end of the year.
Plans for a Shanghai club fell through back in 2004, with fears that it might pose a threat to the moral fiber of the community thought to be behind the last-minute change of plans. Though mainland China couldn't handle the heat back then, Asia's own Las Vegas is ready to welcome the bunnies and their particular brand of raunchy sophistication with open arms.
Making up for lost time, Playboy and Sands Macau have inked a deal to open not one, but two Playboy Clubs. In fact, the first should be taking residence at the top of the Sands Macau Hotel by the end of this year. Complete with live entertainment, private high-roller rooms and of course, a Playboy lounge staffed by their signature silk-clad bunnies, this'll be the warm-up for project number two, a fully-fledged Playboy Mansion. By 2012, tourists to Macau will be able to get their gambling game on, shop, eat, drink and party Playboy-style at the fully-integrated resort-style villa.
Playboy magazine and its other top-shelf neighbors are still strictly off the menu in the mainland, though the population at large don’t have too much of a problem with the objectification of women as any visit to one of the less reputable KTVs will show. And even if most Chinese have never seen a Playboy centerfold, the brand itself is in fine fettle with stores across the country peddling rabbit logo merchandise for those who aspire to the promise of wealth, women and sophistication it represents.
Folks in Shanghai will also be getting a taste of Playboy glamour this week at exclusive club M1NT, so if bunny ears are your guilty pleasure, then hop on over as they join ranks with Sands Macau and other top clubs around the globe to celebrate 50 years of the entertainment empire that revolutionized the nightlife scene.
