Hi,  My family and I will be going to hong kong this Nov 15-19.  THis will be our first time and i would like to ask some tips from those who went to hong kong already so i can make our itinerary.  I got a good deal for hotel accomodation at rambler hotel and Panda.  I just want to know which is better Panda or Rambler hotel.

Hi, My name is Maree (from Brisbane, Australia) and I will be travelling to Hong Kong, Xi'An and Beijing for the whole of September 2012. I read you went to Hong Kong in November. I just wondered how your trip was, what some good tours are and if you have any tips I can take advantage of.

Howdy all,

Here are a few Hong Kong tips, in no particular order:

* If heading from Mainland China, check ticket prices to Shenzhen, add on the cost of the Shenzhen-HK bus (~RMB 90, if memory serves) and see if it's cheaper for you

* Head up Victoria Peak, skip the tram with its massive line (take the bus)--make sure to take in the view at night and during the day

* Take the Ngong Ping 360 cable car to the Tian Tan Buddha, enjoy the view

* Make sure to spend a little time in Kowloon and Central both

* Head up north into the New Territories and do some wandering/hiking/exploring

* Take the bus from IFC Mall to Stanley for a little R&R

* If you feel like dining Western and having some drinks check out the bars and restaurants around the Mid Levels Escalator

* Do some shopping at the nighttime "Ladies Market" on Tung Choi Street (not just for ladies)

* Check out the historic Man Mo Temple and St. John's Cathedral

definitely don't miss out on exploring the islands/mountains/beaches to get a feel for the other side of Hong Kong. I'd recommend Lantau or Lamma as easy ones to find your way around and not too strenuous.

Also to add to Millah's point about the peak and staying up there in the evening - if you can snag a seat on the balcony at Cafe Deco you get a great view of the city and can watch thje light show from a different angle..
