While wandering around Shanghai's northern Zhabei district at the weekend (busy looking for one of the last hand-made woks in town), I stumbled on what looks for all the world like an old church. Have a look at the photos below, and see for yourself.
The building is on Baoyuan Lu, near the corner with Dongbaoxing Lu, a few steps south of Dongbaoxing Lu Metro station on Line 3. Map here.
Immediately next door is a memorial stone on the site of the Fourth National Congress of the CPC (the site of the first is near Xintiandi); the building having been destroyed in the war with the Japanese.
Sadly, though, information about the building still standing next door is rather harder to come by. None of the residents I spoke to knew anything about it, and I can't find any information online, either in English or Chinese. Anyone have any clues?
