The Imperial Palace Hotel (Tianjin Huanggong Fandian) is centrally situated in Tianjin's business district. The hotel was built in 1923 by a British merchant and features an impressive oriental design. In 1995 a Sino-Singapore joint venture worked to refurbish the hotel, and now features both Oriental and Western styles. This Tianjin hotel's 108 rooms are equipped with air conditioning, satellite TVs, in-house videos, international direct dial telephones, refrigerators and mini-bars. Public facilities outside of the rooms are somewhat limited. Business travelers, however, can avail of the business center which offers typing, photocopying, fax and 24 hour limousine service. Dining outlets at the hotel serve respectable dishes, the best of the lot being the Fragrant Garden which serves a range of authentic Thai and Vietnamese dishes, as well as traditional Chinese cuisine.
