Located on the northwest bank of West Lake (Xi Hu), the Shangri-La (Hangzhou Xianggelila Fandian) is, though a bit worn around the edges, easily one of the best luxury hotels in town. Though at first glance the rather unassuming building doesn't promise to live up to the standards of other Shangri-La hotels, the rooms are large, clean and spacious, the staff helpful and pleasant, and the location choice. Many east-wing rooms boast fine views of the lake, and west-wing rooms overlook lush gardens. As the Shangri-La is slightly removed from the center of town, it can be quite peaceful. Onsite dining is another strong point. The Peppino Restaurant offers decent Italian, and the Shang's dim sum and dinners come recommended. Weekend buffets and summertime barbecues in the garden are a delight.
The well-equipped meeting facilities in the hotel cater to different functions including meetings, conferences, banquets and receptions. A banquet hall with a capacity of 450 persons and seven multifunctional halls of different sizes are at guests' disposal.
Guests looking to keep fit can burn calories in gym, tennis court and swimming pool. After workout, they can rejuvenate themselves in sauna bathroom. Those interested in less strenuous recreation can play chess and poker in games room.
