One of the oldest hotels in Yunnan, the Kunming Hotel boasts a great location in the thick of Kunming's commercial (shopping) district. With many famous department stores nearby, the hotel is in one of Kunming's most cosmopolitan areas which is home to the Camel Bar, Mamafu's Restaurant and the fabulous Thai Kitchen. The hotel itself is the most imposing structure in the area and the location is very convenient for the railway station and the airport (5 and 7 kilometers respectively). The Thai consulate is also located in a wing of the Kunming Hotel.

A banquet hall suitable for all manner of functions is available, meeting rooms are equipped with advanced facilities, and the restaurants serves various types of cuisine. The hotel offers a comprehensive choice of cuisine, both Western and Chinese (and Korean). The Hansa Beer Lounge specializes in Western food and draft beer. The travel agency on the ground floor offers complete travel services, including bike rental, which is rarely available in Kunming.
