Getting Around
The bus fare is very cheap in Korla, but the limited quantity and lack of English signage largely reduce their convenience. Taxis are much better choices. Korla is relatively small and you may spend merely 5 RMB to travel around the whole city. It's certainly a good idea to walk around if you are not in a hurry.
To and from Korla
Air
Korla Airport is about 17 km north to the city. There are flights to Qiemo County, Chengdu, Jinan and Beijing weekly. Flights to Urumqi are available daily and the whole trip only takes half an hour.
Train
There are direct trains from Korla to Urumqi, Turpan, Hami, Lanzhou, Xian and Chengdu.
Bus
There are long-distance buses running between Korla and Yanqi, Bositeng Lake, Luntai and Ruoqiang daily. The first desert highway in the world starts from Luntai County, stretches into Takelamagan Desert and can reach Minfeng County and Hotan County.
Korla is 457 km from Urumqi and there are buses running between daily via Tuokexun and Tian Shan.
There is a road paved with red bricks in Aergan area along National Highway 218 between Korla and Ruoqiang. This is the only one of its type in the world with a length of 100 km and a width of six meters.
Car Rental
Buses are not available to some of the scenic spots and tourists have to hire cars. There are cars for rental on Jianshe Lu in the city.
