Zhanshan Temple (Zhàn Shān Sì, 湛山寺), located in east-central Qingdao, was completed in 1934 and is the only major Buddhist temple in the city. Surrounded by hills and built in the classic style of the Ming Dynasty, Zhanshan Temple is home to several authentic Ming-era artifacts including two stone lions guarding the complex's entrance.
Despite the temple's 20th-century origin, its courtyards make for a pleasant escape from the surrounding bustle of the city, and the temple's white jade statue of Buddhist diety Guanyin is quite impressive.
