Yangpachen or Yanbaijin is a town located about 87km northwest of Khasa in a valley surrounded by lush green hills perfect for nomadic herds.
The town is famouos for its hot springs, which double as a resort for tourists and locals as well as the the source of aproximately 45% of Lhasa's electrictiy. You can visit the geothermal lake or take a swim in the two swimming pools of the Holy Medical Spring Resort which are realxing, healthy and probably the highest hot springs in the world.
Besides the geothermal plant, the hills and the attached Holy Medical Spring Resort, the town is also the site rof the Yangpachen Monastery, once the seat of the Karma Kagyu Shamarpas, until they were accused of treason following a late 18th century failed invasion by the Nepali king.
The monastery was totally destroyed during the Cultural Revolution and the ruins are currently being rebuilt.
