Xikou Town   (Ningbo)
0 /0  Users recommend

This little town, a part of Fenghua City 35 km (21 mi) to the southwest of Ningbo, gains its fame from being the birthplace of Chiang Kai-shek, the leader of China's Nationalist Party (KMT) after the death of Sun Yat-sen. Xikou Town (Xīkǒu Zhèn, 溪口镇) sits at the base of Mount Wu (Wǔ Shān, 武山) with the Wuling Gate (Wǔlǐng Mén, 武岭门), a large pink and grey stone gate with inscriptions by Chiang and the founder of the KMT, marking the entrance.

The Residence of Chiang Kai-shek is probably the most famous attraction in Xikou, and most attractions relate to Chiang family history, or at least bear an inscription by the Generalissimo.

Other attractions past the Wuling Gate include the Xikou Museum (Xīkǒu Bówùguǎn, 溪口博物馆) and the Wenchang Pavilion (Wénchāng Gé, 文昌阁). The Xikou Museum, opened in the 1980s in what used to be the Wushan Buddhist Temple, features Neolithic artifacts and items from ancient Chinese dynasties like the Tang and Song as well as exhibits detailing the culture of Fenghua. The Wenchange Pavilion, through the Wuling Gate to the left, was first built during the Qing Dynasty in the early 1700s and later rebuilt by Chiang Kai-shek in 1925.

About 4 km (2.5 mi) from the Fenggao House is Xuedou Shan (Mount Xuedou), which features beautiful natural scenery and the Xuedou Temple.

Tickets can be bought that include all Chiang Kai-shek related sites in town plus the Xikou Museum. Tickets are also available that include entry to Xuedou Shan.
