Tseway Gompa   (Xiahe)
0 /0  Users recommend

Like many temples in China, the ancient monastery Tseway Gompa (Zuǒhǎi Sì, 佐海寺) tragically did not make it through China's more turbulent times intact. But the traditions of this Bön monastery live on. Tseway Gompa sits beneath a ridge which provides panoramic views of the surrounding Ganjia Grasslands and the ancient walled Bajiao Village nearby.

The Bön religion traces its roots back to ancient Tibet, where the tradition traded elements with Buddhism as the latter arrived in the region from India. While both are considered traditional religions of Tibet, there is some debate as to which one influenced the other and to what extent.
