Just a few blocks from People's Square, Huaihai Lu, Xintiandi and the Dongtai Lu Antiques Market, the Shouning Lu snack food street is the place to go if you like BBQ seafood.
We know, seafood is risky, especially the street-shucked variety, but the barbecued scallops with the sweet, spicy garlic sauce here have to be tasted to be believed.
If you're coming out of a nearby club in Xintiandi or Huai Hai Lu, maybe G Plus, Brown Sugar or Baby Face, around 5:30 in the morning, you're in luck. That's when the freshest of the fresh has just been unloaded from the docks and brought to market.
You'll also find hot pot, ruo chuar (BBQ'd meats and vegetables), roast meats and small restaurants serving common Chinese fare here. Late at night you'll probably also come across people selling everything from shoelaces, to earrings to Chinese henna tattoos.
