For one of the most anticipated pavilions of the Expo (according to this poll), the road to Expo was fraught with controversy, politicking and speculation, but after getting all its financing together, the USA put together a solid pavilion.

The USA Pavilion's theme at Shanghai Expo 2010 was "Rising to the Challenge." Visitors were presented with a multi-dimensional, high-tech presentation of the story of the USA's national character, which, according to the tellers, was one of perseverance, innovation, and community-building.

The design concept centered on four thematic pillars: sustainability, teamwork, health and the Chinese community in America. Overall, the pavilion was about a United States where diverse peoples can find opportunity and come together to change their communities for the better.
