Reting Monastery (热振寺) is one of the most important monasteries in Tibet. The Reting Rinpoche's trace their heritage back to the great Buddhist teacher and Enlightened being, Atisha of the Pala Empire (present-day Bangladesh).

Reting also helped find the 14th Dalai lama and the last free Reting Rinpoche was the current Dalai lama'as tutor until he was betrayed and murdered by the Chinese.

The monastery itself was almost completely destroyed during the Cultural Revolution and has never been fully rebuilt.
