The Li River (漓江 Lí Jiāng) snakes through Yangshuo as it flows southward from Guilin proper. Where West Street goes down to the river, a number of small boats park waiting to take visitors on short cruises along the river.
Although the waters look inviting and in better weather are dotted with locals swimming by the banks, bathers may look to the smaller, cleaner Yulong River for a swim.
At night, the river is lit up about a 15 minute walk away from town as over 600 locals perform in Zhang Yimou-directed "Impression of Liu Sanjie"
Away from town, near Xingping Village, is the particularly scenic bend in the Li River that appears on the back of the RMB 20 bill.
