Jingdong Canyon  (Beijing)
0/0  Users recommend

Jingdong Canyon (Jingdong Da Xiagu) is situated some 85 km (53 miles) east of downtown Beijing and within an hour's drive of a number of other excellent Beijing day-trip attractions, including Pan Shan (Mount Pan), the Huangya Pass Great Wall, Dule Temple, the Eastern Qing Tombs and Wuling Shan (Wuling Mountain). It's also doable as a day trip from Tianjin.

Also called Wulongtan Canyon, this impressive gorge covers an area of roughly 6 square km (2.3 square miles). You can follow a clear-running spring-fed zigzag stream down the canyon, exploring hollows and caves along with the way. Thatched-roof cottages, tents and hammocks are available as resting spots. It's lovely in all seasons—budding with life in spring, mantled in green in summer, blazing with color in autumn and starkly beautiful in winter as the evergreens and rock formations contrast with the white of snow.

The official scenic area also includes Longtan Lake and its water park, and Jingtai Mountain. Available activities depend on the season, with boating and fruit picking (late summer and fall) being among the most popular.
