Hubei Provincial Museum is located by the lakeshore of East Lake in Wuchang. The total construction area of the museum is 42,549 square meters while the exhibition halls take up 12,280 square meters. It's the museum with the most cultural relics in Hubei Province.

The historic cultural relics collected in this museum are as many as more than 200, 000 pieces, among which the number of cultural relics under national protection is about 640 pieces and 16 pieces are regarded as national treasures as well. Those on exhibition include bronzeware made in Shangzhou Period, around 3000 years ago, wood carpentry with lacquer surface made in Chu Kingdom (a state during Chunqiu Period, around 770 BC to 476 BC), bamboo slips for writing on from Qin Dynasty, calligraphy and painting works of famous people in Chinese history as well as fossils of ancient ape man. Bianzhong (literally Chime Bells, an ancient Chinese musical instrument consisting of a set of bronze bells hung in a wooden frame and stuck with a mallet), the sword of Goujian, the King of ancient Yue Kingdom, and the spear of Fuchai, the King of ancient Wu Kingdom are especially precious treasures. Bianzhong Exhibition Hall has a collection of the cultural relics unearthed from a grave of Yi (a king in Zhanguo Period, 476 BC-221 BC), and you can also appreciate the Bianzhong performance here.
