Located at the western foot of Gui Shan Mountain (Tortoise Mountain) and east to Yu Hu (Moon Lake) in Hanyang District, Guqin Tai, literally Guqin Terrace is also called Boya Tai. Guqin is a traditional Chinese instrument. This terrace was built in memory of the friendship between Yu Boya and Zhong Ziqi.
Legend has that long long ago there was a musician named Yu Boya playing the guqin at the foot of Gui Shan Mountain. A woodman on the mountain named Zhong Ziqi listened to him carefully and understood everything Boya wanted to express in his playing. Boya was very happy to find a person who had the exactly same mind as him and regarded Ziqi as his best friend. Several years past, Boya passed Gui Shan again and heard that Ziqi was already dead. He was so sad that he broke his guqin and vowed never to play again.
The square marble terrace in front of the main hall of Guqin Tai is said to be the place where Boya once played his Guqin. Inside the park, everything is delicately arranged. Builders made use of the natural landform connecting Guqin Tai with Gui Shan and Yue Hu smartly and thus formed a profound artistic ambiance.
Guqin Tai was first built in Northern Song Dynasty. After several times of construction and reconstruction, the one what you can see now was built after 1949.
