Ganjia Grasslands   (Xiahe)
0 /0  Users recommend

Located in a parallel valley to Xiahe, the Ganjia Grasslands (Gānjiā Cǎoyuán, 甘加草原) offer a glimpse into the lives of the semi-nomadic Tibetans living in the Amdo region. Unlike the Sangke Grasslands that lie closer to Xiahe, the Ganjia Grasslands have yet to be turned into a commercial tourist attraction.

Many denizens of the Ganjia Grasslands still keep to their traditional lifestyle herding yaks. During the chilly winters, many of them stay in mud-brick homes and head back to tent living during the warmer months. Home stays are possible, but it's best to work out arrangements through a guesthouse in Xiahe or a Tibetan-speaking guide.

The Ganjia Grasslands are also home to several other places of interest, including the ancient walled Bajiao Village as well as the temples Tseway Gompa and Trakkar Gompa.
