Chiang Kai-shek Residence (Fenggao House)   (Ningbo)
0 /0  Users recommend

Born in 1887 to a moderately well to do family of salt merchants, Chiang Kai-shek, or Jiang Jieshi as his name is written in pinyin, would go on to lead China as the head of the Nationalist Party, the KMT.

The Fenggao House (Fēnggǎo Fáng, 丰镐房), located in Xikou Town in Fenghua City (Fènghuà, 奉化), 35 m (22 mi) to the southwest of Ningbo, was the birthplace of Chiang Kai-shek and his son Chiang Ching-kuo and today serves as a museum relating the colorful life of Chiang and his family. An exhibit in the kitchen details the death of Chiang's first wife, Mao Fumei, who was killed when a shell exploded behind the kitchen during a Japanese air raid in 1939.

Nearby is the Yutai Salt Shop (Yùtài Yánpù, 玉泰盐铺 ), the family business of the Chiangs, which details the history of the extended Chiang family and Chiang Kai-shek's early life.

Other Chiang family sites include the mausoleum of Chiang Kai-shek's mother (Jiǎng Mǔ, 蒋母墓), about 1 km away (0.6 mi) from the Fenggao House, and Little House (Xiǎoyáng Fáng, 小洋房) built in 1930, where Chiang Ching-kuo stayed after his studies in the Soviet Union. The house is located to the west of the Wenchang Pavilion (Wénchāng Gé, 文昌阁) next to the Shan Creek (Shànxī, 剡溪).

Tickets can be bought that include all Chiang Kai-shek related sites in town plus the modest Xikou Museum (Xīkǒu Bówùguǎn, 溪口博物馆). Tickets are also available that include entry to the Xuedou Shan (Mount Xuedou) area.
