Beijing Workers’ Stadium   (Beijing)
0 /0  Users recommend

Home to Beijing's Guoan FC, Workers' Stadium—known as Gōng Tǐ (工体) for short, Gōngrén Tǐyùcháng (工人体育场) in full—is a 66,000-seat monolith in the city's Chaoyang District.

Built in 1959 in commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the People's Republic of China, Workers' Stadium underwent a massive renovation in 2004 and regularly hosts some of China, and Asia's, most important sporting events, including select portions of the 2008 Summer Olympic Games.

The surrounding grounds and buildings comprise a popular recreational area, playing host to a clutch of clubs, bars and restaurants at night and providing locals with a bit of parkland forlight exercise and socializing during daylight hours.

The streets squaring off Workers' Stadium are the scene of many more popular entertainment and dining hot spots, with the action flowing north and east toward Sanlitun.

Dining options include the excellent Jiuhua Shan Roast Duck Restaurant (Jiǔhuāshān Kǎoyā, 九花山烤鸭), while cheap accommodations can be found at the nearby Beijing Sanlitun International Youth Hostel (Sānlǐtún Qīngnián Lǚshè, 三里屯青年旅舍).

Admission:Varies according to event  Hours:Hours vary according to event  How to get there:Workers' Stadium is down the road from the notorious Sanlitun bar street. Unfortunately there are no subway stations conveniently accessible from the stadium, but given that it's such a major landmark, all cab drivers know exactly how to go there.
