Bameicun   (Wenshanzhou)
0 /0  Users recommend

If you're looking for something off the beaten track, Bameicun should make your shortlist. The village lies in a small remote valley, completely surrounded by rugged mountains and formerly only accessible by boat through a narrow limestone cave. Given its remote location and the difficulty in getting there, the village's customs and culture has remained unchanged and uninfluenced by outside sources.

Nowadays, the village is gaining notoriety as a tourist destination, roads are opening. Unfortunately, the tourist trade brings with it those influences that Bameicun has been so isolated from and thereby changes what actually makes the place worth visiting.

There aren't any hotels in the village and unless you can strike up a deal with a local for one of their beds, you'll have to head back to Guangnan or Wenshan to find a place to stay.
