The rocky, mountainous Liaodon Peninsula coast just outside of central Dalian known as Daheishi is a popular area for climbing, hiking and taking in spectacular views of both the Yellow Sea and the Thousand Hands Buddha, a large statue atop a peak and some 500 luohan statues. Louhan, also known as arhat, are a bit like Buddhist saints: believers who have attained enlightenment and escaped the cycle of earthly rebirths.
